Bruce Jonathan Reimer

January 22, 1982 – December 28, 2021

Bruce Jonathan Reimer, age 39, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on December 28, 2021 after a courageous fight with cancer. He will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Amanda (Drebert) and his four children: Anna, Maja, Ezra and Levi; father William Reimer, brothers Ken Reimer (Barbara); Brian Reimer; and sister Kim Hiebert (Marvin). He was predeceased by his mother Elsie Reimer (Sawatzky) in 2014. He will be sadly missed by his Drebert family, numerous nieces and nephews, many close friends, colleagues, and his faith community; Faith Covenant Church.

Bruce was born in Morden, Manitoba in January 1982. Shortly afterwards, the Reimer family moved to Winnipeg and made their home on Osgoode Place in Waverley Heights. During these years, Bruce went to Chancellor Elementary School and then went on to Westgate Mennonite Collegiate where he graduated from high school. Shortly after the Reimer family moved into their home on Osgoode, the Anderson family moved to this quiet crescent as well. This became quite significant as Bruce developed a lifelong friendship with Erik and Cody Anderson, and started attending Faith Covenant Church and spending his summers at Covenant Heights Bible Camp. It became even more significant when a beautiful blonde, brown eyed cousin moved into the Andersons’ basement to attend University of Manitoba. Amanda Drebert and Bruce were married in 2008.

After high school, Bruce took a year to study at Covenant Bible College in Strathmore Alberta. This was a highlight in his young life and included a mission trip to Haiti. Bruce then went to University of Manitoba and graduated with his Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in accounting. He had a 15 year career with Manitoba Hydro holding a variety of positions during his time there. With an interest in small business start ups, he assisted Amanda in starting her successful mobile physiotherapy business, Amanda Reimer Mobile Physiotherapy. Bruce was well known for his astute financial skills and used them in his role as Treasurer in his church, and with the Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada.

One of Bruce’s favorite places was Covenant Heights Bible Camp on the peaceful shores of Clear Lake in Riding Mountain National Park. He attended as a camper in his teenage years and then held every role possible from camp counsellor to president in the years following. His favorite role was that of a camp counsellor for the younger boys. He was very happy to see his own kids and nieces enjoy camp as much as he did.

Bruce was a devoted father to Anna (10), Maja (8), Ezra (5) and Levi (3). He loved taking them on adventures in the mountains, and ensured that they went camping in the summer, and skiing in the winter. He took great joy in watching them learn new skills. Bruce left a legacy of faith with his children. He taught them the love their Heavenly Father had for them, and how to be a follower of Christ. Family was very important to Bruce. He and Amanda enjoyed many road trips to Alberta to spend time with the Drebert family. Special and everyday occasions were often celebrated with the Reimers. Bruce’s penchant for undertaking do-it-yourself home improvement projects often led to the recruitment of his Dad. The pair spent many creative hours together. Bruce maintained close relationships with his siblings and parents with intention and care.

Bruce faced his illness with courage and with more concern for others than for himself. The family would like to thank the staff of CancerCare St. Boniface, and the staff of 5E St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care.

In life, he had tremendous faith.
In death, he had no fear.
In Christ, we honour his life.

A celebration of life is planned on January 5, 2022 at 2 pm that will be livestreamed at https://youtu.be/pulspKVnPmg. Interment will occur during a private family service at Sage Creek Cemetery.
